Small/Medium BusinessGetting New ServiceFor new gas service to your commercial building, Nashville Gas must install a service line and a meter set. A service line is the gas pipe that runs from our main distribution system adjacent to your building. It must be installed before the meter is set. The meter measures the amount of gas consumed at your business. Follow these guidelines to request a service line and meter. Step 1: Initial Contact Fill out the Discover Natural Gas form. A Nashville Gas representative will contact you to inform you whether gas is available or if any additional steps need to be taken. Step 2: Sign Commercial Service Agreement Your representative may need the following information: - Site plan showing needed gas meter location
- Estimated gas load (prefer equipment list with gas capacities in BTU/HR) - determined at initial meeting
- Gas delivery pressure needed at meter set (inches or pounds)
- Standard meter pressure is 7" unless requested - maximum meter load of 1600 cubic feet per hour (cfh)
- 2 psig and 5 psig pressures available in most locations
- Dates needed for service and meter installations
- Person to contact for schedule changes
- Name, phone number, job address and permit address
- Special consent forms such as requests to replace asphalt, re-seed, etc.
The time expectation for installing a service line (weather permitting during non-holiday periods) is: - Winter: 6 to 8 weeks
- Spring/Summer/Fall: 4 to 6 weeks
Step 3: Request a meter set Once your service line is installed, you are ready for your gas meter to be set. A Nashville Gas service representative will install the meter for your building. Please contact your local Nashville Gas office, ask for your Commercial Sales Representative, and request a meter set. Your representative will need the following information: - Appropriate city or county inspection approvals of gas piping and hardware downstream of the meter set are the customer's responsibility. A gas meter cannot be installed until the gas piping and hardware has been approved and released by appropriate inspectors and released to Nashville Gas.
